00:35 Miner asks about his background growing up in the Hollygrove neighborhood of New Orleans; sang in church as a child and with gospel groups, the Soul Revivers and Bessie Griffin's Consolators. Recorded Dorothy La Bostrie’s “I Won’t Cry” in 1970 on Joe Ruffino’s Ric label. Many arrangements by Eddie Bo and Dr. John. Played with Walter Washington for many years. Went to Detroit with a group to audition for Motown but couldn’t sign because he had a contract with Ric. 06:50 Left Ric and went to different labels including Shelby Singelton’s label out of Nashville, recorded “Reconsider Me”made it onto the Billboard charts. Got a gold record and a Grammy. Asked about record producer Senator Jones and got recordings on radio stations. Last five years working with Scott Billington on Rounder. 10:20 Demonstration Plays “Do Right Woman” from the After Dark album. 14:10 Talks about his preference for soulful, gospel oriented songs. Went to Europe and Japan in the 80’s. Played locally at Dorothy’s Medallion where he often played from 1 – 5 AM, like the Dew Drop.
